Environmental impact of GEEBEE<\/strong><\/p>\n

A study by Oxia Initiative Inc. has established that the GEEBEE, over the life of its battery (50,000 km), avoids\u00a0\u00a012 tonnes of GHGs<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0These data were collected by taking into account the amount of GHG emitted by the production of a Geebee and the amount of GHG saved by using a GEEBEE, while owning a car.\u00a0The GEEBEE would be used by one person during short and medium distances.<\/p>\n

The GEEBEE is\u00a0\u00a0manufactured and assembled in Quebec<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0In addition,\u00a0\u00a080% of the parts are Canadian<\/strong>\u00a0, which reduces transport.\u00a0An assembly site is located in France in order to reduce the environmental impact for the European market.\u00a0The GEEBEE can be recharged at home using a normal electrical outlet.\u00a0No transport is therefore necessary to get to a charging station.\u00a0It is also designed to be used for many years.\u00a0Its average lifespan exceeds ten years.\u00a0The battery life is approximately three years (if used every day).<\/p>\n

Reusable and recyclable battery<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many people have questions or doubts about the electric battery, produced with raw materials that are difficult to extract, such as lithium and cobalt.\u00a0However, you should know that it is now possible to reuse and then recycle these famous batteries.\u00a0A car battery, after its use for the latter,\u00a0\u00a0retains up to 80% of its initial capacity<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0Technology now allows us to adapt end-of-life batteries to different types of vehicles or to electrical networks, without requiring major changes.\u00a0(\u00a0Government of Canada<\/a>\u00a0) In France, the\u00a0Doctibike<\/a>\u00a0company\u00a0\u00a0works in the reconditioning and repair of electric bicycle batteries.\u00a0The lifespan of a battery can therefore greatly exceed its initial duration.<\/p>\n

Recycling of these batteries can even be done locally.\u00a0One example is the\u00a0Lithion<\/a>\u00a0company\u00a0\u00a0, based in Montreal, which specializes in the recycling of electric batteries in order to recover materials and to reuse them.\u00a0These materials are more concentrated and perfect for use.\u00a0This is called\u00a0\u00a0the circular economy<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0The company therefore makes it possible to further reduce GHG emissions from electric transport, to help the planet’s decarbonization needs.<\/p>\n

Global regulations<\/strong><\/p>\n

Several countries have issued regulations on this subject to oblige companies to recycle their electric batteries.\u00a0Indeed, in Europe, the\u00a0\u00a0Battery Directive 2006\/66 \/ CE<\/a>\u00a0, states that the producers of batteries and products containing batteries must ensure that there is a\u00a0\u00a0collection site in<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0order to recover the batteries at the end of their life.\u00a0This equates to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).\u00a0In Quebec, EPR does not currently target electric vehicle batteries.\u00a0(\u00a0Government of Quebec<\/a>\u00a0) Will such a regulation see the light of day in the province?\u00a0To be continued\u2026[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
